This gym is truly outstanding and offers a fantastic atmosphere. It provides a friendly, family-oriented environment with a wide variety of machines available to use without the hassle of waiting. The staff at the front desk are always welcoming and helpful. The only reason I wouldn't give the Y a five-star rating is due to the cost. I understand that it's considered the top Y facility in the region. However, I found the price of $40 per month for my "college discount" membership to be rather steep. While the membership included access to the entire gym, pool, and classes, I was solely interested in using the gym facilities. Having to pay for amenities I didn't plan on utilizing was a drawback for me. It would have been ideal if there was an option to opt for a gym-only membership, as other gyms in the area offer.
There are so many choices at the gym. Even when it's busy, you can always snag a cardio machine. I absolutely loved my sessions with Gina R. for personal training.
A bit on the busy side, but top-notch facilities and programs available!
The staff is top-notch and there are a plethora of activities available for everyone!
I absolutely love the after-school program for its convenience. The school coordinators are truly caring and provide a variety of engaging activities daily. Their direct involvement with the kids is commendable.
I absolutely love coming here every day to get my workout in. The staff and trainers are incredibly welcoming and helpful.
This establishment has great potential for growth and is quite pleasant. It would be even better if they offered a hot tub facility, despite the prices being on the higher side.
If you're eyeing the outdoor pool like us, it's a bit of a gamble if you're bustling through the workweek. The Y doesn't seem to impose any cap on guests, and come the weekend, the pool can get quite congested. It might strike a fairer balance for paying members if the Y set limits on guests or managed the pool's capacity more diligently. Aside from the outdoor pool scenario, the facility itself is top-notch.
Everyone is so lovely, I just can't get enough of the Zumba classes they provide. The team does a brilliant job looking after my son and daughter and keeping them entertained while I get my workout in. Such a fantastic spot for families!
Fantastic small group workout sessions with enthusiastic and well-informed coaches.
It's truly unfortunate that the YMCA of Delaware is not part of the AARP/United Healthcare "Renew Active" program, which supports seniors in staying active. As a longstanding member of the YMCA, I have benefited from AARP covering 50% of my membership fees last year, and now they are willing to cover 100%. However, it's disheartening that the YMCA has chosen not to participate in this updated program. I urge you to reconsider your decision and allow seniors to take advantage of this valuable financial assistance.
Regarding your response, I want to clarify that AARP has transitioned from a 50% reimbursement program to a 100% reimbursement program. It is disappointing that the YMCA is not accepting this new initiative, leaving seniors without the financial support they need. I kindly request that you reconsider and begin accepting the new program from AARP.
Oh dear, not a pleasant experience at all. That gym can get quite packed and I always seem to have a rather negative time there. On the bright side, I would recommend trying out the Western gym on Kirkwood Highway instead. It's much more to my liking.
What a splendid spot to bond with our kinfolk! Our entire tribe adores taking a dip at the YMCA. The pool is incredibly spacious, and the water is delightfully temperate, making it nearly imperceptible to sense the winter chill. Gratitude to the YMCA for such a grand experience!
There are classes available all day long, with a variety to pick from. The instructors are top-notch and the facilities are kept clean.
There are far too many children running amok. Furthermore, the gym's exorbitant membership fees hardly seem worth it when they shut their doors at 4 pm on Saturdays and 2 pm on Sundays. It would certainly be a treat to fully appreciate the facilities on our days of rest.
The aquatics department at this establishment leaves much to be desired, as do the lifeguards. My child wished to partake in using the outdoor slide, a activity he has joyfully engaged in before due to meeting the height requirements. However, today the on-duty guard insisted he pass a swim test, despite my presence which has been customary in the past. Upon discussing with the head guard, I was informed that it is at the discretion of the slide attendant. Yet, when I brought up the issue at the front desk, I was told that the decision should not rest solely on the guards and that kids requiring a swim test should be identified with a wristband. Curiously, none of the children using the slide were sporting wristbands that day. The inconsistency of rules depending on the staff present each week is quite troublesome. I fully intend to address this matter with the management team as the combination of high prices and inadequate lifeguard supervision is simply unacceptable and absurd.
This place has got everything, I absolutely love it. The staff are super friendly.
*****IMPORTANT NOTICE BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR SUMMER CAMP*****
1-Star Review for YMCA Bear-Glasgow (Delaware)
My time at this YMCA establishment has been quite the letdown. I mistakenly enrolled my child in the incorrect week of summer camp, and instead of encountering understanding or assistance, I was met with an attitude of inconvenience.
Upon contacting them to rectify the situation and transfer the enrollment fee, I was informed that it was non-refundable — and they made it exceedingly challenging to reallocate the funds. The team displayed no compassion towards me or my child. They were patronizing, uninterested, and clearly apathetic towards our predicament.
It's worth noting that they are charging $350 per child for camp — and that doesn't cover breakfast, lunch, or snacks. At that price point, one would expect a minimum level of adaptability and customer service.
To make matters worse, their policy on cancellations and refunds wasn't transparent from the start. If I had known how inflexible and unsupportive they would be, I would have second-guessed my decision to sign up.
This entire affair felt like financial mistreatment — they pocketed my money and then proceeded to treat me as though I was insignificant. I would not suggest this YMCA to any parent looking for openness, fairness, or even basic courtesy.
Fantastic gym with a wide range of equipment and diverse sports and fitness programs for everyone. The staff are incredibly friendly and supportive. They even have both indoor and outdoor pools, which is a great feature. The only odd thing is that the pools tend to close about an hour before a possible rain or snowstorm for the safety of guests. They won't reopen until the storm has completely passed. It makes me wonder if the building lacks proper grounding and safety measures to protect members from lightning strikes. I've never been asked to leave an indoor pool during a lightning storm anywhere else, so it's definitely something to consider.
